Sunstone

WHAT IS A SUNSTONE?

Sunstone comes from the family of feldspar gemstones with an orange to red color with a nice shiller look. The nice glittery appearance is due to the inclusions the stone has in itself, which is called aventurescence. It is precisely due to its color and this unique phenomenon of shining, that the stone is called Sunstone.

SUNSTONE PROPERTIES

As warm and glowing as the sun, this gemstone oozes abundance and joy. It is a stone filled with positive energy, which will definitely rub off the wearer. It is known to bring good luck and encourage independence and originality. With that it increases self-empowerment and self-worth. WHERE DO SUNSTONES COME FROM?

Sunstones can be found in several places throughout the world from Sweden, Southern Norway, South Australia and India. In the United States there is a large mining location where the most rare sunstones are mined called the Oregon Sunstones, hence the location is the Oregon state.

ONE OF A KIND

Sunstones are often overlooked by jewelry affeciados, but if given the chance this gemstone will show an optical phenomenon known as "aventurescence." It is when light interacts with mineral inclusions that are within the stone and in that way produces a flash of light under certain angles to the observer of the stone. The inclusions in general are sometimes not what most are looking for, but it is exactly these that showcase this beautiful phenomenon.

The Sunstones that come from the US state Oregon are very rare and unique as they also showcase aventurescence, but a different kind as the inclusions in these sunstones are made out of copper.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SUNSTONE JEWELRY?

Avoid using harsh cleaning treatments such as ultrasonic cleaners and steamers or chemicals for sunstone. The best method of cleaning a jewelry piece with a sunstone is to use warm soapy water and a soft brush or cloth. Make sure your sunstone jewelry is completely dry before wearing or storing. It is preferable to store it in a velveteen bag.
