Tourmaline
WHAT IS A TOURMALINE?
Tourmaline is a semi-precious stone and the birthstone for October along with the Opal stone. It is a complex silicate mineral containing boron. The range of colors is from black to pink to blue and even in-between colors ranging from green to pinkish hue. Each different colored tourmaline used to have its own name, but now we call the tourmalines by their color like Green tourmaline, Pink tourmaline and the mixture of two colors (green and pink for instance) Watermelon Tourmaline.
TOURMALINE PROPERTIES
The Tourmaline is known as a 'receptive stone' meaning that it is closely connected to spirituality, wisdom and the inner being. It is a magnetic stone acting as the bridge between the conscious and unconscious mind allowing for the individual to grow its psychological awareness.
WHERE DO TOURMALINES COME FROM
Tourmalines can be found in several places around the world from Afghanistan, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Greenland, Bolivia, Nigeria, Russia, Brazil, Madagascar and India amongst many countries. We source our sapphires all over the world, but mainly work with trusted suppliers from Sri Lanka.
ONE OF A KIND
Tourmalines are one of the most popular and widely used stones in the jewelry industry. Because of their color variety they make the perfect gemstones for rings, necklaces, earrings and pendants. One of our favorite and bestseller tourmalines is the Watermelon Tourmaline. It has a beautiful and unique hue of two-color combinations: it goes from green to pink and in that way resembles a watermelon colorway. We offer this gemstone in several cuts from pear to baguette and round. The rarest of all tourmalines is the neon blue Paraiba Tourmaline, that can be found in Brazil, Nigeria, and Mozambique. It is one of the most prized and expensive gemstones and comes in an intense and vivid blue color.
ALL THE MANY SHAPES
At Capucinne we love to play with shapes and cuts, making the most of every gemstone. Tourmaline is no exception. We have made beautiful pieces with oval, round, pear, baguette and geometric shaped tourmaline creating unique pieces. Tourmalines make a beautiful center stone no matter what color it is, ranging from mint to pink and the sought after watermelon tourmaline. It is beautiful accompanied with side diamonds, but spectacular on its own as well.
HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR TOURMALINE JEWELRY
To keep the beautiful tourmaline looking new as long as possible, make sure you take proper care for your sapphire jewelry by removing it when cleaning, showering, doing physical activities and avoid body oils, swear and lotion that can build up on the stone and make its appearance more matte in return.
Avoid any harsh chemicals when wearing the tourmaline, so we advise taking it off when cleaning with household chemicals. The best way to clean your sapphire jewelry is to use mild dish soap and water, soaking it in for a minute and just gently buff it with a soft cloth.
